Essential Oils That Are Good For Your Epilepsy/Seizures

If you don't know it by now I have Epilepsy.  I also use essential oils. I have done some research to make sure that I don't use the wrong essential oils that can possibly cause me to have a seizure but also I have looked for essential oils that can help with my seizures.  Now I am not saying these essential oils you can take in place of medication no that would be dangerous! You should always take your seizure medication and follow your doctors orders. What I am saying is that through my experience these essential oils have helped me either stop a seizure from coming on (in stressful situations and lack of sleep situations).  Here is a list of essential oils that you can use to help with seizures (along with your regular seizure medication, of  course).


  1. Frankincense - I put this one diluted on my big toe when I feel a seizure coming on, have had extra stress and have a stress headache, or haven't had enough sleep and I feel the effects right away (I always dilute all of my oils but you don't have to dilute Frankincense).
  2. Clary Sage- I use this one in the diffuser along with Lavender and Lemon.  The recipe is: 


  1. Lavender - Is good for stress, relaxation and sleep.  When you are stressed and have lack of sleep your risk for seizure activity goes up.  So just relax and blend some of this.
  2. Ylang Ylang - In the Essential Oils Desk Reference is says that Ylang Ylang is Antispasmodic and you can use it for anxiety. Less anxiety equals less stress.
  3. Roman Chamomile - In the Essential Oils Desk Reference it says that Roman Chamomile is a Relaxant and a antispasmodic.  You can use it for restlessness, anxiety, insomnia and ADHD. It also minimizes irritability and nervousness. I have not personally tried it yet but I have really wanted to as it is always out of stock.
  4. Valor - I personally use this in my sleep blend. I also use it in my anxiety blend. The recipe for the sleep blend is as follows:
  5. RutaVaLa - The Essential Oils Desk Reference says that Ruta VaLa promotes relaxation of the body and mind. It soothes stressed nerves and induces sleep. I use this roll on also to help me sleep ( I have three methods right now that I rotate to help me sleep).
  6. Peace and Calming - In the Essential Oils Desk Reference, is says that peace and calming promotes relaxation and a deep sense of peace and emotional well-being, helping to dampen  tensions and uplift spirits.  When massaged on the bottoms of feet, it can be a wonderful prelude to a peaceful night's rest.  We all need a peaceful night's rest when dealing with epilepsy.  I use this in my first sleep blend which I included the recipe above.
